Community College

There is a great demand-supply mismatch of employable manpower in India. The economy needs many more skilled workforce, managers and entrepreneurs than are produced annually. It is sad but true that most of the contemporary institutions of higher learning remain almost disconnected to the requirements of the workplace. The skill- oriented courses available in the market do not create employees acceptable to the industry. The traditional higher education system in the country is also rigid in terms of duration of courses, timings of teaching-learning, place of study, choice of subjects and last but not least, cost and affordability.

If we are able to provide a skilling environment matching global standards, skilled citizens will not only be sought-after by domestic employers but also have opportunities in developed regions of the world, which have aging populations that will soon exit the workforce.

We are committed to preparing young individuals for meaningful and timely employment. Recognizing the existing gaps in skilling and vocational education programs, which often fall short in addressing workplace requirements and technological changes, Navya Disha aims to establish a Community College.  The college will integrate skill development with flexible learning formats, thereby providing opportunities for vertical mobility and life-long learning. The model comprises vocational skill development as well as traditional coursework, thereby providing opportunity to the learners to move directly to the employment sector unless they aspire for higher education. It offers a flexible and open education system and caters to community-based, lifelong learning needs. It seeks to establish a synergistic relationship between the community, the college and the job market.

We will follow a learner-centric approach that will transform youth by equipping them with skills for employment, entrepreneurship and life. This will include:
  • Training the youth in skill-oriented programmes based on the local needs and in the fields of soft skills, digital literacy and entrepreneurship.
  • Guiding trained youth into the right field based on market needs.
  • Supporting interested youth to pursue entrepreneurship.
  • Establishing partnerships with government, industry, civil society and financial institutions to catalyze learning environments and facilitate employment and entrepreneurship.
  • Supporting the youth to pursue higher education and to make career progression
The partnership between Navya Disha and The Sports School, a Kalpen Venture Initiative, is a significant step towards establishing a community college focused on empowering youth. The program’s  focus is on youth aged 18-25 from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in and around Bangalore, encompassing areas like Bangalore urban and rural districts, Ramnagara, Mandya, and Tumkur, is aimed at addressing specific needs. It aims to assist school or college dropouts and young individuals from marginalized sections of society in finding viable options for livelihood. By targeting this demography, the program endeavors to provide opportunities and support to those who face challenges in accessing traditional educational pathways, empowering them with skills and avenues for sustainable livelihoods.
